A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the Brand Universe approach and how it can help multipassionate entrepreneurs bring all their diverse interests together into a cohesive whole.
Because people have always told me to pick one thing and focus.
For a long time, I thought something was wrong with me because I couldn't do it. I was always doing several things at once... until I got Long Covid, and burnout finally caught up with me. I suddenly couldn't do anything anymore.
But a tiny part of my brain kept working on the problem. I realized that I'm really good at hyperfocusing - too good. I will pour my whole self into something to the point of burning out.
That's when I understood that balance was key. Managing chronic illness, running a design business, writing, art, and cooking all need to fit together in my life. And now I know my power is in the connections between them - containing multitudes is what makes me unique.
And it’s what makes you unique, too.
The Missing Piece in Multipassionate Branding
When you contain multitudes—diverse skills, interests, and offerings—the challenge isn't actually your diversity. It's finding the invisible force that's already connecting everything you do.
Your Center of Gravity is exactly that—the natural force that unifies all your seemingly unrelated passions and offerings.
It's not:
A mission statement (too broad)
A tagline (too marketing-focused)
A niche statement (too limiting)
A list of services (too tactical)
Instead, it's the underlying why and how behind everything you create. It's the thread that's been running through your work all along, even if you haven't named it yet. It becomes the unifying force, a corral to hold all those multitudes you contain together so that your audience can understand what you’re up to.
What a Strong Center of Gravity Looks Like
Let me show you what happens when someone discovers their Center of Gravity:
BEFORE: "I'm a business consultant, I run leadership workshops, and I have an online course about team dynamics. I also do one-on-one coaching with executives and recently started a podcast about workplace culture. Yeah, I know it's a lot..."
AFTER: "I help established organizations create resilient team cultures that thrive during periods of significant change. I do this through strategic consulting, leadership training, practical courses, executive coaching, and sharing real-world examples through my podcast."
Notice what happened? Nothing about their offerings changed. But suddenly, everything makes sense together. There's a clear gravitational center pulling all those diverse elements into orbit.
That's the transformation that finding your Center of Gravity creates.
Why This Changes Everything
When you discover your Center of Gravity, everything shifts:
Communication becomes effortless - You can explain what you do in one clear sentence that encompasses everything
Marketing feels cohesive - All your content naturally connects to your center
Decision-making simplifies - You have a clear filter for which opportunities align with your center
Your authenticity shines - You no longer feel pressure to hide parts of your professional self
Client confusion disappears - People immediately understand how all your offerings fit together
This isn't about constraining your multifaceted nature—it's about creating the coherence that allows it to shine.
How Do You Find Your Center?
The process of discovering your Center of Gravity involves looking at your work from multiple angles:
Identifying patterns across everything you offer
Recognizing what naturally pulls you back again and again
Finding the connecting force that creates coherence when you feel scattered
It's a process of discovery rather than invention—because your Center of Gravity already exists. It's been operating in your work all along, whether you've named it or not.
